Tumi takes the National Teachers Award.

Placing excellent high achieving graduates in low socio-economic backgrounds is the mandate TEACH South Africa set forth in its vision to revolutionize the standards of education across South Africa. A true testament to that vision is encapsulated in one individual. Ambassador Tumi Makgoale, an Ambassador who has shown his learners that there is no age limit to achieving a goal. Tumi was recommended by his district officials to the National Teachers Award (NTA). There are two other TEACH Ambassadors who have already gone before Tumi in the NTA nominations. The first one was Sphiwe Sibanyoni who obtained the National Teacher’s Award for Excellence in Natural Science Teaching at National Level. Then Madia Elekanyani followed with a National Teacher’s Award at District Level. The Teachers’ Awards sought to recognise teachers on issues pertaining to how teachers motivate learners, what teachers do inside and outside the classroom, excellence in Mathematics teaching (FET) and the innovative methods of presenting lessons to students. In 2015, with only one year of experience in teaching, Tumi managed to achieve a pass rate of 91% for his matric learners as shown in the graph below. Given the opportunity to present on the above mentioned categories, Tumi Mokgoale emerged victorious and was awarded accordingly. On the 19th of October the next level of the competition commences where he will present at a provincial level among other winners of the first leg of the competition. His learners are also excelling. He has enrolled Lerato a grade 11 student, and Thandeka a grade 10 student, to compete in the Mental Maths competition where he expects his learners to be top of the list. TEACH South Africa is extremely proud of the strides its Ambassadors and learners are making to better the space of education. We wish Tumi and his students good luck in their respective competitions.
